Why are people in 1950s-1970s so hungry for new religious answers in their problems and how does jim jones offer them an answer?

Jones was known as the master of the manipulators. People had numerous questions, on the basis of their feeling of being discriminated on the grounds of religion, race etc. And Jome Integrated white and black populations together and asked them to live with equality and respect towards each other.
