Considering the purpose of the Operation Reinhard camps, why would their closing in 1943 be so surprising? OA
They were supposed to be detention centers for Soviet POWS.

There were still Jewish prisoners being held by the Reich.
Of Germany was still at war so their munitions plants were important.

The camps had proved themselves to be quite profitable.
