The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, better known by the shortened name of The National Grange, was a peasant organization of the United States of America founded in 1867 by Oliver H. Kelley, a Minnesota farmer, for the purpose of grouping especially to the farmers of the south and the west of the country who were beginning to live a difficult economic situation just after the Civil War.

Initially it was a social and educational movement that set out to fight against the isolation of farmers, but soon began to promote distribution and consumer cooperatives to eliminate intermediaries in the commercialization of agricultural products, although most of these cooperatives failed because of the lack of of experience in the management of the same, the hostility of the already established cooperatives and the lack of support among the peasants themselves.  

At the beginning of the decade of 1870 its affiliation increased because of the agrarian depression that was happening in America, and it was precisely in those years when it participated in politics through the so-called "third parties", with the main objective of ensuring that the States, especially those in the Midwest, where the organization was most established, will regulate railroad tariffs and grain storage silos. In addition, in five States they came to present laws that sought the regulation of property when it was declared of public interest.  

With the return to prosperity at the end of the 1870s, the organization lost political strength and returned to its initial objective: the social and educational improvement of farmers.
