1. A block of aluminum metal at 75.0 degrees C is placed in 2.00kg of water at 27 degrees C. The final temperature is 38 degrees C. Determine the mass of the aluminum block.
2. The top of an acrylic testing box is covered with insulation material that has a thermal conductivity of 0.3 J/s*m*C. The dimensions of the box are 0.75m x 0.75m and the thickness of the box is 0.05m. A 60W bulb is used to heat the box. The bulb maintains the inside temperature at 25 degrees C higher than the outside temperature. Calculate the energy transfer after 45 minutes.
3. A student decides to skip class and sits outside for 50 minutes. The outside temperature is 67.0 degrees F. The student’s skin temperature is 92.8 degrees F. Determine the net energy transfer (Q) from the student’s body during that class period due to electromagnetic radiation. Note: Skin emissivity is 0.90, and the surface area of the student is 1.80m^2.
