Explain how would you multiply 5x 2 1/2

Make the fraction improper. To do this multiply the denominator by the whole number, 2.
2 x 2 = 4
then add the numerator, 1, to 4.
4 + 1 = 5
So now you have 5 x 5/2. Make 5 a faction and put it over one. 5/1 = 5. Multiply 5/1 x 5/2. Just go straight across. You don’t need matching denominators for multiplication.
Multiply the numerators
5 x 5 = 25
And multiply the denominators
1 x 2 = 2
You get 25/2, now simply, divide 25 by 2.
You get 12.5, multiply 12 x 2 = 24.
25 - 24 = 1, put 1 over 2 for 1/2, or .5. So it’s
12 1/2… or 12.5 :)
