In your own words using mathematical terminology, explain to your friend how to solve a linear equation that requires you use the distributive property. In order to solve a linear equation we would need to find it first. A linear equation is set up as y=Mx+b, where we have to find M and B. To find these we must look at the graph. The point on the y axis, which is the line going up and down, is the b. Now we need to find M. To find M we have to look at the next points on the line and rise (go up) over run (either to the left or the right). When looking at the next point we can go up then to the side. If you go to the right then the amount you are going is a positive but if you are going to the left then the amount you are counting is a negative. The numbers we get as we rise and as we run turn into a fraction. If you are able to simplify the fraction then you can. Once you have done that you can plug in you M and B.
