Longitudinal and transverse wave is known to have different line or direction of their oscillation/vibration.

In a longitudinal wave, the oscillation of the wave takes place only in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave.

In transverse wave, the oscillation takes place only in a plane perpendicular to the direction of propagation. A good example of transverse waves are the electromagnetic waves.
