In the rainy season, the Amazon river flows fast and runs deep. In one location, the river is 23 m deep and the water moves at a speed of 4 m/s toward the east. The river is near the equator, where the earth’s 50 μT magnetic field is parallel to the ground and directed north. The water in the river, like the water in all rivers, carries sediments and salts. The water thus carries charged ions and is somewhat conductive.
