Nativist theories state that language is an innate fundamental part of the human genetic make-up and it is a natural part of the human experience. Children have language-specific abilities that assist them as they work towards mastering a language.

The interactionist theories states that innate processes help in language development. It states that children can only learn language from the people who want to communicate with them.

This means that little children can mimic the language of individuals around them and also receive reinforcement to correct the formation of their words.
