Numerous ways of prejudice exist in the caste or class system. Low caste representatives are therefore not permitted to find employment outside the position of a certain category. Dalits are sometimes provided the first and most unwanted work, including sewage cleanups.

Low category members were not allowed to get married someone outside the whose community, but are not forced to engage openly in societies.Often caste individuals, particularly the Dalits, become handled violently by participants of middle and upper classes whether they are considered to be acting outside their category. In the Hindu community, Dalits are much more generally referred to these as outcasts.

Many forms of discrimination happen in the caste system. Members of lower castes are not allowed to apply for jobs that are outside of their caste’s role. Dalits are often given the most undesirable jobs, such as cleaning out sewers. Members of lower castes are not permitted to marry anyone outside their caste, nor are they allowed to participate freely in society. Sometimes members of lower castes, especially the Dalits, are treated with violence by members of higher castes if they are perceived as acting beyond their caste. Dalits are more commonly referred to in the Hindu society as outcastes.
