One thing we do is look back on other cultures and look at what they believed in. This provides us not only insight on their beliefs but also how they thought things worked and would be like later on. That's what provided us with our conclusions about some of the well known cultures we now of today.

earlier philosophers whose work influenced the enlightenment included bacon, descartes, locke, and spinoza. the major figures of the enlightenment included beccaria, diderot, hume, kant, montesquieu, rousseau, adam smith, and voltaire. it spread the ideas of the enlightenment across europe and beyond.
