Mr. Geremia teaches a​ mixed-age classroom of fourth and fifth graders. He sees many advantages to the​ multi-age grouping, including the chance to build on​ children's understandings and concepts over a​ 2-year period, form cooperative student work​ groups, and give considerable attention to basic literary skills before students move on to middle school.​ However, the large variability in​ students' moral beliefs puzzles him. He is particularly amazed by the many beliefs that students express regarding what things are​ "right" and​ "wrong" and why​ they're right or wrong. Mr. Geremia deals with this diversity by giving repeated explanations about​ students' rights and obligations.
