PROJECT: THE EMOTION BOOK Knowing all you know now about socioemotional development, you should be able to make a great tool for helping small children understand their own emotions and develop empathy for others. Your assignment is to make "The Emotion Book," which is targeted toward toddlers and preschoolers. It should have at least ten pages, each featuring either a drawing of a person experiencing an emotion (for example, happy, sad, worried, scared, confused, bored, excited, angry, tired, calm/content) or a photo from a magazine or the Internet depicting such an emotion. Then write text for each page that would be easy for young children to understand and that is geared toward helping them talk about emotions. For example, under the page for "happy," you could write: "Happiness is when we feel really good. How do you think this boy/girl feels? Why do you think he/she is feeling this way? Do you feel happy? What makes you happy? What do you do when you are happy? Do you smile and laugh?" Your book can be made any size and with any material. You can handwrite it or type it. The important things are that it is attractive and engaging for this age group and that it effectively teaches the child about emotions.
