Krill is an zooplankton species that is extremely abundant in Antarctic water bodies. These zooplanktons feeds on phtoplanktons present in the Antarctic water bodies. Therefore, in antarctic food chain Krill belong to primary consumer trophic level. In Antarctic they are source of food for seals, penguins, whales, fishes and birds. These are included in secondary, tertiary and quaternary trophic levels of the food chain. The drop in the size of the krill population will result in limitation of populations of species at higher trophic levels. As, many food chains are interconnected to form a food web therefore, the drop in size of Krill in one food chain will also affect the overall food web of Antarctica.
