Defragmentation is a process where all piece of data that scatter around are arranged into contiguous locations. Defragmentation is especially important to keep a healthy hard drive.  

Fragmented data in hard drive will slow down the reading time. Hence, defragmentation can be considered a house keeping routine which should be performed on a computer on regular basis to give optimum performance on the hard drive.

Besides, defragmentation can also free up some spaces for our hard drive.
