How did countries suffer from events of the cold war?

Countries suffered both politically and economically due to the cold war and numerous people suffered a lot. People faced misfortune due to nuclear explosions.

Cold war is a political unrest between United States and Soviet Union. It took place after world war II in between 1947 to 1991. U.S.S.R and United States both are economically and geo politically strong and sound country. It was named as col war because both of the countries did not fight directly like in the battle field.

Though some missiles, submarines, small nuclear weapons were used in the cold war. During the whole tenure both the countries were in a unstable condition.
